Why Study at Anhui University, China

Anhui University (AHU) is a key comprehensive provincial higher education institution supported by the Chinese government under the State Project 211 and is the flagship of higher education in Anhui Province. Originally founded in Anqing, the then-capital city of Anhui Province, it was compelled to move westward and then discontinued operations because of the 1937 Japanese invasion. In November 2007, the university was evaluated as excellent during the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching assessment.

(1). History 

Anhui University (AHU) was founded in 1928 in Anqing, it was compelled to move westward and then discontinued operations because of the 1937 Japanese invasion. It was not until 1946 that the university reopened under the name State Anhui University. In 1956, the university moved to Hefei and two years later resumed student enrollment. With the reform and opening-up movement’s combination with modernization, the university has achieved its most significant and fastest developmental period ever, achieving a great leap especially after its entry into the State Project 211. 

(2). Discipline and programs

Currently, Anhui University is comprised of four campuses and one high-tech park, which together cover an area of 3,200 mu (213.3 hectares) with a gross floor area of over 1.1 million square meters. The university consists of 26 colleges and schools, offering 77 undergraduate specialties, 148 master’s degree programs, 17 professional master degree programs, and 48 Ph.D. programs. Besides, it has 13 post-doctoral scientific research workstations, along with 2 state-level and 25 provincial-level key disciplines. The university hosts a key research base of humanities and social sciences, two key laboratories, and one engineering research center under the Ministry of Education. 

(3). Academic facilities and Scientific research 

Anhui University covers 4 campuses of about 207 hectares. Besides its beautiful scenery and modern facilities, Anhui University has a collection of more than 3.4 million books and over 7,000 Chinese and foreign periodicals. Also, it owns a modern experiment and technology center acknowledged by China National Metro-logy Accreditation, 4 provincial key research bases of humanities and social sciences, 9 provincial key laboratories, 3 provincial engineering research centers, as well as 2 state- and 6 provincial-level experiment and teaching demonstration centers.

(4). Anhui University Achievement

Anhui University (AHU) was designated by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the State council as the Teaching Base for Chinese Language and Culture in 2000. At present, the university has a staff of over 2500, among whom about 1,533 are teaching faculty, and over 800 hold professor, associate professor or other equivalent professional titles, and there are 28 specially appointed academicians and distinguished professors. The student population totals 26000, among whom 5352 are graduate students, 20235 are undergraduate students, and 1103 junior college students. Anhui University was also recognized by Ministry of China as Demonstration Base of Foreign Students Education in 2014.

(5). Communication and international cooperation

Anhui University (AHU) attaches great importance to the international exchange and cooperation. Now, it has entered into agreements with 118 overseas institutions. Anhui University began to accept foreign students in 1981. It is authorized by the Ministry of Education to enroll international students who enjoy Chinese government’s scholarships. It was designated by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the State council the Teaching Base for Chinese Language and Culture in 2000. It was also recognized by Ministry of China as Demonstration Base of Foreign Students Education in 2014. At present, students from more than 40 countries are studying in Anhui University. Acknowledged by the Ministry of Education as one of the 22 National Overseas Chinese Education Bases as well as one of the 84 higher education institutions that accept overseas students with government scholarships, Anhui University now boasts 96 sister universities/institutions worldwide, and co-establishes Confucius Institutes with San Thomas University in Chile, Kharkov University in Ukraine, and Baku State University in Azerbaijan respectively
