Why Study at Beijing Institute Of Graphic Communication, China

With the rapid development of modern printing and publishing, BIGC has experienced remarkable changes. It started from the Department of Printing in Culture Institute affiliated to the Ministry of Culture in 1958 and laid the foundation of China’s higher education in printing. In 1961, Culture Institute was cancelled and its Department of Printing was merged into Central Academy of Art and Design. The Department of Printing shouldered the burden of printing talents development and cultural inheritance of Chinese civilization and continued to grow up. In 1978, BIGC was founded on the base of Central Academy of Art and Design with the permission of the State Council, Under the leadership of China’s Press Administration, through constant expansion and connotative promotion, it grew into an undergraduate college which specialized in developing high-level professionals of printing and publishing. 

(1)History
With the ripening and improvement of undergraduate educational system, BIGC accumulates rich experience and gains great advantage in its characteristic higher education. Quality of talent development and social influence has been on the rise. In 1998, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of State Council, BIGC acquired the conferring right of master’s degree and started the postgraduate education, till then the subject construction of BIGC entered a new phase of development. After the national adjustment of higher education institution in 2000, BIGC became a university under the joint jurisdiction of General Administration of Press and Publishing(GAPP)and Beijing Municipality, with the latter as its main supervisor, which further enhanced the ability of educational resource allocation, and service scope for profession and development capital social and economic development widened a lot.
Success of Undergraduate Course Education Level Assessment by Ministry of Education in 2006 and excellent performance in Beijing Party-building Assessment in 2007 symbolized the perfect conclusion of stage victory of BIGC school-running history. It indicates BIGC has developed into a comprehensive communication university characterized in printing and publishing, along with the coordinating discipline development in engineering, the liberal arts, management, art, and economics. 
After more than fifty years’ development, BIGC has achieved remarkable educational success, and accumulates abundant experience and wisdom in school-running, and lays a solid foundation for sustainable development with its own characteristics and advantages, which offers valuable enlightenment for innovative higher education in engineering of communication.
 
(2)Discipline and programs
The school adheres to the characteristics of development, with the characteristics of disciplines to enhance the core competitiveness. The school has preliminarily formed four major specialty groups of media science, media culture, media art and media management. It has built a new digital media professional group with the characteristics of digital printing, digital publishing, digital media art and digital media technology. It has 4 key construction disciplines in Beijing and 10 first levels. The master's degree authorization center includes 5 Master's degree authorization points, 19 two level master's degree authorization points, and 30 undergraduate majors. The school and the Communication University of China, Beijing Jiaotong University, the Chemical Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, South China University of Technology, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, and other institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions jointly develop a doctoral graduate student. The school has 2 national specialty construction points, 1 national class excellent teaching teams, 1 national teaching achievement awards, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 National Undergraduate Practice education bases, 2 national excellent engineers education and training programs, 1 national quality teaching materials and 6 national level. In 12th Five-Year, the planning teaching material, 1 Beijing first-class specialties, 4 Beijing special specialty construction points, 3 Beijing experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 Beijing municipal talents training bases, and 2 Beijing demonstrative innovation practice bases. The school is a member of the deputy director of the teaching and Instruction Committee of the Ministry of education, a member of the Standing Committee of the Standing Committee of the teaching and Guidance Committee of the University, the affiliated unit of the Secretariat, a member of the national publishing professional degree graduate education guidance committee, the State Press and publication department and the Beijing publishing and printing press. Talent training base, Beijing publishing industry and cultural research base, Beijing cultural safety research base, national new media industry base "animation creation and talent training center".
(3)Academic facilities and Scientific research
Schools vigorously promote scientific research and implement science and technology innovation driven projects. In the past five years, the funding for scientific research in schools has stabilized at about 60 million yuan. In the past 5 years, the school has obtained 46 national projects, including 26 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 16 national social science fund projects, 2 projects of soft science in the Ministry of science and technology, 1 scientific and technological support projects, 1 national key R & D projects and 123 provincial level projects, including 19 projects of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Beijing natural fund. 9 items, 39 projects of Beijing social science foundation, 7 humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of education, 8 key projects of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, 15 national press and publication projects, 26 other projects, 284 municipal projects, and 408 projects of various types.
(4)Beijing Institute Of Graphic Communication Achievement
The school has strengthened the combination of industry, University and research, and has established a scientific research platform covering the press and publishing industry chain. In 2010, with the approval of Beijing, the school set up the green printing and packaging industry technology research institute of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication and the University Science Park of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication. In 2013, the school established the Cultural Industry Safety Research Institute and the Qingdao Research Institute. In 2014, the school approved the national green printing and packaging industry collaborative innovation base and established the digital publishing and Media Research Institute of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication. In 2015, the copyright research center of the Copyright Society of China, the national composite digital publishing project and copyright protection project settled in North India. In October 2016, Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication and Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology and Beijing University of architecture founded the "alliance of Beijing South University". The school signed the strategic cooperation agreement with the territorial Government, more than 20 scientific research institutions and enterprises and brotherhood colleges and universities, and launched the establishment of the Beijing green printing industry technology innovation alliance. In the past five years, nearly 200 major scientific and technological projects at the national and provincial levels have been undertaken, and the number and quality of scientific research achievements have been greatly improved, and more than 2000 papers have been published. Among them, more than 1200 articles, such as SCI, EI, ISTP and CSSCI, have been published; more than 400 publications and textbooks have been published; more than 500 authorized patents have been obtained; 5 national levels of scientific research award and 4 at the provincial level Item.
  
(5)Communication and international cooperation
Schools insist on opening schools and vigorously strengthen exchanges and cooperation with other countries. More than 50 famous universities and research institutions in 14 countries such as the United States, Russia, Britain and Germany have established intercollegiate cooperation and exchange relations, and signed an agreement between undergraduate and graduate students and joint training of undergraduate and graduate students and co - granting degrees. At home and abroad, more than 100 publishing houses, companies, enterprises and institutions have established teaching, scientific research and practice bases, and many enterprises have set up grants in our university. The school established Alumni Association and actively utilized alumni resources to provide services for the further development of the school.
