Changchun University of Science and Technology (CUST) is a university of science and technology founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1958. Since 1958, CUST has been striving for innovation in higher education. Now 5 decades later, CUST has emerged as a key provincial university with both national and international reputation for its academic research, especially in the fields of optics and mechanics as well as interdisciplinary and professional programs.
(1) History
Changchun University of Science and Technology is a key university in China, previously known as Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. The university was found by the former vice chairman of China Association for Science and Technology and the founder of the Chinese Optical Society, Wang Daheng in 1958 in Changchun, Jilin, China. In May 1960, the name of the university changed to "Jilin University of science and technology". In 1978, the school recruited graduate students for the first time. In April 2002, approved by the Ministry of education of China, the school changed its name to Changchun University of Science and Technology.
(2) Discipline and programs
With the development and construction, today Changchun University of Science and Technology has become a multidisciplinary university in science, engineering, arts, economy, management and law with photoelectric as its distinctive characteristics and with the integration of optics, mechanics, electronics, computer and material science as its superiority. Changchun University of Science and Technology offers international students 56 undergraduate programs and 83 postgraduate programs as well as 25 Ph.D. programs. What is more, there are 7 post-doctoral research stations and one national key discipline at school. There are 20781 full-time Chinese students including 16116 undergraduate students, 4250 postgraduate students, and 415 doctoral candidates at school. Changchun University of Science and Technology also has 188 international students studying here.
