Why Study at China University of Mining and Technology

China University of Mining and Technology is one of the key comprehensive national universities under the direct administration of the China’s Ministry of Education. It is also one of the key universities listed in the national “211 project”, and Innovation Platform for Advantageous Disciplines of “985 project”.

(1) History

The history of China University of Mining and Technology began in the early twentieth century, as one of the earliest institutions where China’s higher education in mining took shape. With over 100 years of imperial glory, it has borne witness to China’s history and vicissitudes of the times. It was known as Jiaozuo School of Railroad and Mines which was founded by Peking Syndicate Limited in 1909. After moving 14 times from one place to another, renamed 12 times, it has finally got its present name as China University of Mining and Technology. The history of our university is not only a mirror of its development, but also a miniature of modern higher education in mining in China. As the first higher learning institution in mining in China, its development has always been closely linked with the destiny of the country and the ever-changing society.

(2) Discipline and programs

China University of Mining and Technology offers 59 undergraduate programs, 35 first-level discipline master programs, 9 professional degree programs, 16 first-level doctoral programs, and 14 post-doctoral programs. The university now has one key first-grade discipline and 8 key disciplines rated by the Chinese government as priorities on the national educational agenda, and 1national key incubated discipline. In addition, there are 8 disciplines in which Special-term Professors are hired under “Changjiang Scholars Program”, 4first-grade key disciplines on the ministerial or provincial level, and 5 disciplines which have obtained the approval of “Advantageous Discipline Construction Program in Universities in Jiangsu Province”. In 2012, in the third round of discipline evaluation conducted by Ministry of Education, disciplines of Mineral Engineering, Safety Science and Engineering, Science and Technology in Surveying and Mapping as well as Geological Resources and Geological Engineering ranked the first, second, third and fourth respectively. In 2012, the Engineering Science of China University of Mining and Technology ranked the top 1% of ESI among all the universities and scientific research institutions in the world.

(3) Academic facilities and scientific research

China University of Mining and Technology has constructed complete and high-level platform of sci-tech innovation, has owned 2 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering (technology) research centers, 3 national engineering laboratories, 1 national university science park, 4 key laboratories and 2 engineering research centers of ministry of education, another 18 provincial key laboratories and engineering (technology) research centers, has founded many on campus scientific research bases, such as the Internet of Things (perception mine) research center, Low carbon energy research institute, etc. Technology Transfer Center (TTC) of China University of Mining and Technology has been approved as National Technology Transfer Center and has achieved “Golden Bridge Awards of China Technology Market Association” many times.

(4) Communication and international cooperation

China University of Mining and Technology has already carried out extensive international cooperation in many aspects, including student joint cultivation and credit transfer system with over 20 foreign universities, such as University of Adelaide in Australia, University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, University of Kentucky in America, University of Waterloo in Canada, University of Nottingham in UK, and Hanoi University of Geology and Mining in Vietnam. The study-abroad programs mainly comprise foreign cooperative education programs for undergraduates like civil engineering, building environments & energy application engineering and intercollegiate education exchange programs, including machinery design and automation, business, electrical engineering and automation, etc.
