Why Study at China University of Political Science and Law

China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) is a “Project 211” university, government honor bestowed upon China’s finest institutions of higher education. China University of Political Science and Law is well known for legal academics and also enjoys a distinguished reputation in arts, history, philosophy, economics, management, and education. Under the supervision of the State Ministry of Education (MOE), China University of Political Science and Law is located in Beijing on two campuses: the Xueyuan Lu campus in Haidian District and the Fuxue Lu campus in Changping District. Over the past 60 years, China University of Political Science and Law has educated and trained more than 200,000 graduates, and has played an active role in key legislative efforts in China and has played a key role in representing the country in international academic exchanges. Approximately 15,600 full-time students are currently enrolled in China University of Political Science and Law. Among the full-time students are almost 8,530 undergraduate students, approximately 6,100 graduate students, and over 1,000 international students. 
 
(1). History 
 
China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) was initially established in 1952, with its official name Peking College of Political Science and Law and combined departments of law, political science, sociology and other subjects of Peking University, Yenching University, Fu Jen Catholic University and Tsinghua University. The prestigious scholar Ch'ien Tuan-Sheng, who was educated at Harvard University and regarded as the founder of modern political science in China, was appointed as the first president. China University of Political Science and Law had been stopped during Cultural Revolution. In 1983, under the policy of Central People's Government to develop the college quickly and make it the center of politics and law education in China, BCPSL was renamed as the China University of Political Science and Law. Under the motto of "Cherish the Moral, Understand the Law, Know the World, and Serve the Public"; China University of Political Science and Law  made its contribution to the development of legal education and training in China. It was the first university to establish specialties such as Legal History, Civil and Commercial Law, Economic Law, Procedure Law and Comparative Law in the PRC. In the last 60 years, China University of Political Science and Law  graduates have become the elites of law enforcement and practitioners in China, CUPL has developed a niche for the enactment and enforcement of law in China. 
 
(2). Discipline and programs
 
China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), comprises 18 schools and departments and 15 university-level research institutes. China University of Political Science and Law currently offers19 majors for undergraduates, 75 academic master degree programs, 5 professional master degree programs, 31 doctoral programs, and 3 post-doctoral research centers. The following are the schools and departments at China University of Political Science and Law: Law School, CCE Law School, International Law School, Criminal Justice School, School of Politics and Public Administration, Business School, School of Sociology, Literature and Arts School, School of Marxism, School of Foreign Languages, school of jurist masters,  School of Journalism & Communication, College of Comparative Law, College of International Studies, Department of Science and Technology Teaching, Department of Physical Education. China University of Political Science and Law provides undergraduate programs in the following disciplines: law, forensics science, political science, international politics, public affairs administration, industry and commerce administration, economics, international business, management science, philosophy, political philosophy, psychology, and journalism. The Graduate School of China University of Political Science and Law has offered several nationally renowned programs, including: doctoral programs in law, political science, and Marxist philosophy; ten disciplinary master’s programs; three professional master’s programs; and, post-doctoral programs. The Graduate School enjoys a rich heritage, having established China’s first doctoral programs in legal history, economic law, civil procedure, comparative law, and human rights law.
 
(3). Academic facilities and Scientific research 
 
China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) has 928 faculty include 296 full professors, 167 mentors for doctoral postgraduates, 602 mentors for master degree postgraduates, 845 teachers for teaching and scientific research, and 83 counselors. Nearly nine in ten of CUPL’s full-time faculty members hold doctoral or master degrees. The university has recognized scientific research institutions both at national and municipal level such as Institute of Evidence law and Forensic Institute which serve as key Laboratory of Ministry of education, 3 key research Institutes of humanities and social science in universities of Ministry of Education: Procedural law research Institute, Institute of Regal History and Institute of Human Rights studies. At municipal level there is Key research Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences. The university has also other research Institutions like Research Center for Law and Economics, Institute for Ancient Law Books and Materials, Institute of Globalization and Global Issues, Research and Evaluation Center of Legal Education. 
 
(4). China University of Political Science and Law Achievement
 
Over the past 60 years, China University of Political Science and Law has educated and trained more than 200,000 graduates, and has played an active role in key legislative efforts in China. China University of Political Science and Law has assumed a leadership role in China in the development and innovation of legal thought and has played a key role in representing the country in international academic exchanges. As one of the key universities in project 211, China University of Political Science and Law  has become well known high learning institution with distinguished reputation in arts, law, history, philosophy, economics, management, and education. Recently, China’s Ministry of Education (MOE) has designated law, political science and public administration, and sociology as Key Disciplines at China University of Political Science and Law . 
 
(5). Communication and international cooperation
 
China University of Political Science and Law collaborates with 173 distinguished universities and institutions in 44 countries. Each year, hundreds of faculty and students travel abroad for international exchanges and studies. The China-EU School of Law (CESL), founded in 2008, is the most comprehensive Sino-EU joint program in the field of legal education and research and is training future international jurists. In 2012, China University of Political Science and Law has co-established a Confucius Institute (CI) with Bangor University (BU), followed by two other Confucius Institutes with University of Bucharest, Romania and University of the West Indies, Barbados respectively, namely Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest in 2013 and Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados in 2015. China University of Political Science and Law continues to develop its international reputation―striving for excellence in innovation, multiple disciplines, openness, and international reach.
