Why Study at China Youth University of Political Studies

China Youth University of Political Studies is a university in Beijing, established in 1985 by the Communist Youth League of China. Since then the university has been affiliated with the league, and the leader (First Secretary) of the league usually holds the presidency of the university. China Youth University of Political Studies focuses on undergraduate education. The university has undergraduate majors such as Economics, Law, Journalism and Mass Communication, Social Work, Sociology, Social Security, Youth Work, Public Administration, Chinese Language and Literature, and Foreign Languages and Literature.

(1). History 

China Youth University of Political Studies (CYUPS) grew from the Central School of the Communist Youth League of China which was founded in 1948. China Youth University of Political Studies was established in December of 1985 on the basis of the Central School of China Communist Youth League (CCYL), China Youth University for Political Sciences (CYUPS) is an institute of higher education affiliated with the Central Committee of China Communist Youth League. Today, China Youth University of Political Studies takes up the responsibilities of offering regular higher education programs and providing training courses for youth leaders. 

(2). Discipline and programs

China Youth University of Political Studies majors focus on law, politics, research on Marxism, Public Administration, Youth Culture and Youth Development, Social Work, Criminal Law, and Journalism. The university also has the first and largest social work department (now a social work college) in mainland China. China Youth University of Political Studies focuses on undergraduate education.  Currently we offer 13 undergraduate and 9 graduate programs. These degree programs fall into such 4 academic categories as Law, Economics, Management and Literature. Undergraduate programs including economics, Law, Journalism and Mass Communication, Social Work, Sociology, Social Security, Youth Work, Public Administration, Chinese Language and Literature, and Foreign Languages and Literature. The university also provides post-graduate education in such fields as Marxism, Sociology, Criminal Law, Economic Law, Journalism, and Economics.

(3). Academic facilities and Scientific research 

The library of China Youth University of Political Studies collection, dominated by social and humanity sciences, is closely connected with the undergraduate teaching, discipline establishment and research orientations. The collected volumes amount to about 800,000. The library has 33 full-text database and index database available in both English and Chinese, including 26 Chinese databases and 7 English databases. The number of e-book database is 4 and the ratio of p-book to e-book purchased after 1990 is over 95%. With the complete youth data as its distinctive collection, the library has built up the Bibliographic Database of Youth Research Papers, which includes tens of thousands of items. Academic research is one of the key areas that China Youth University of Political Studies focus on. A variety of research organizations with separate roles have come into being. In 2011, with the integration of research abilities and competitive resources, the Youth Research Institute was founded, consisting of the Youth Development Research Center, the China Social Work Research Center, and the Theoretical Research Institute of Communist Youth League. The specialized research centers and institutions such as the Chinese Marxism Research Center, the Chinese Volunteering Information Research Center, the Ethical and Political Education Research Institute, the Youth Legal Studies Institute, College Students Development Research Center, College Students Outward Bound College Students, Oriental Culture Institute, and Science and Public Affairs Institute, accompanied by the 11 departments, constitute the system of our research organizations, essential to the sustainable development of our academic research work.

(4). China Youth University of Political Studies Achievement

The graduates of China Youth University of Political Studies are widely recognized in the society. In 2011, among the top 100 colleges and universities with best graduates, China Youth University of Political Studies ranked 57 nationwide (the average academic capacity of teachers ranked 98 and freshmen quality ranked 32) and ranked 17 in Beijing (the average academic capacity of teacher’s ranked 22 and freshmen quality ranked 14). An important platform for cultivating public service professionals and conducting youth research, China Youth University of Political Studies has proudly grown to be China’s largest training institution for high-ranking youth leaders. Research achievements have grown in quantity and quality. Since 2004, the numbers of both research papers and books published by the teachers have maintained sustained increase. Among the published are more than 3400 papers and over 300 monographs, translations and college textbooks, including such excellent works as The History of European Renaissance(12 volumes) and Liang Zhuang: China in Miniature. 

(5). Communication and international cooperation

China Youth University of Political Studies (CYUPS) has built extensive relationship of cooperation and exchange with other universities and research institutions in countries such as the U.S., Great Britain, Russia, Germany, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. We also have implemented long-term cooperation with some international organizations. In cooperation with United Nations Children’s Fund and International Labour Organization and many other International organizations,China Youth University of Political Studies has carried out a number of long-term projects. China Youth University of Political Studies has also forged partnership with over 20 colleges and academic institutions on extensive cooperation in undergraduate and postgraduate education, research cooperation and academic exchange.
