Guangzhou University (GZU) founded in 1928, is located in Guangzhou city, Guangdong province.Guangzhou University is a comprehensive university named after the third largest city in China. In 2000, five universities merged into the present-day Guangzhou University. The university boasts a history of ninety years and is a high-level university being developed under the support of the government of both the Guangdong Province and the Guangzhou City. It has 27 schools and enjoys a comprehensive variety of disciplines including philosophy, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, economics, administration and arts. These 27 schools enroll approximately 34,000 undergraduate and graduate students and employ almost 2,000 highly recognized and skilled faculty.

(1) History 

Guangzhou University (GZU) was founded in 1928. In 1948, the Institute of Economics was established, approved by the National Government in 1949, and began to enroll graduates in economics, becoming the leader of private universities in the Republic of China. In June 1951,during the adjustment of the distribution of higher education, Guangzhou University with the National University, Culture University, Zhuhai University, Lingnan University, Guangzhou Law School and South China Business College was merged into South China United University. In July 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Guangzhou Institute of Education, the Guangzhou Teachers College, the Guangzhou normal College, the Guangzhou University, the South China Construction Institute (West Institute) were merged to form the new Guangzhou University.

(2) Discipline and programs

Guangzhou University has 27 schools and enjoys a comprehensive variety of disciplines including philosophy, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, economics, administration and arts. These 27 schools enroll approximately 34,000 undergraduate and graduate students and employ almost 2,000 highly recognized and skilled faculty. The university enjoys its own art and performance team which includes the Guangzhou Ballet Troupe and the Guangzhou Singing and Dancing Troupe. The university also has a large number of students' organizations and cultural projects which are enjoyed by the students and community. It has 3 postdoctoral research moblie stations, 8 Ph.D. authorization units and doctorate professional degree authorized units, 31 first-level subjects master's degree authorized units, 13 master's professional degree authorized units. There are 2 key subjects, 3 characteristic key disciplines and 14 key disciplines in Guangzhou.

(3) Academic facilities and Scientific research 

Guangzhou University (GZU) has 2838 staff members, 1186 of whom are doctors, 1169 of whom are with subtropical high titles, and 1878 of whom are teaching and scientific research staff, of whom 1127 are doctors, accounting for 60000 until There are 2 academicians in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 2 in the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Guangzhou University has two campuses which include the University Town campus and the Gui Huagang campus in downtown. Both campuses offer rich teaching resources and high-tech research equipment. The university has undertaken numerous key projects and established a number of research platforms including the Earthquake Engineering Research & Test Center, Cyberspace Advanced Technology Research Institute, Computing Technology Research Institute, Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, Dawan District Environmental Research Institute, Guangzhou Development Research Institute, Guangzhou International Finance Research Institute and Human Rights Research Institute. As of December 2017, the library of Guangzhou University employed 3.03 million books and a digital resource capacity of nearly has already reached 30000GB.

(4) Guangzhou University Achievement

In recent three years, it has been granted one national first prize for scientific and technological progress, two national second prize for scientific and technological progress, one Chinese patent excellence award, two third-class awards for outstanding achievements in scientific research (humanities and social sciences) in institutions of higher learning, and one outstanding contribution award for Guangdong Province, honored 4 the first prize of the Guangdong Provincial excellent achievements in philosophy and Social Sciences Award and 66 other kinds of provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. In August 2017, the commentary on human settlement in the Paleolithic era by  Professor Zhang Dian was published on Science. It is the first time for Guangzhou University, as the major producer to publish a paper in Science. From 2013 to 2017, 8 academic papers has been issued respectively on the China Social Sciences, the most authoritative academic journal in the humanities and social sciences. 

(5) Communication and international cooperation

Guangzhou University (GZU) has established exchange and cooperative relationship with more than 200 universities and institutions from 33 countries and regions all around the world. In addition to its internationalization, the university continues to integrate its development with building Guangzhou into a national hub city while making great strides in its capacity to serve economic development and win numerous awards. In 2017, more than 1200 students were selected to exchange and study at the world's highest level universities abroad, in the form of 22 projects, 121 projects, 31 international student exchanges, overseas studies, paid internships, and other cooperative projects.
