Huaiyin Institute of Technology is one of the provincial institutions of higher education in North Jiangsu province, China. It is located in Huaian, a famous historical & cultural city as well as the hometown of Zhou Enlai who was the first Premier of the People's Republic of China.
(1) History
Huaiyin Institute of Technology was founded in 1958, and in 2000 it was upgraded to an undergraduate institution granting Bachelor Degrees. In September 2011, it was selected as one of the pilot institutions undertaking “A Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers (PETOE)”. In October 2011, approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, it was authorized to offer Master Degree of Engineering.
(2) Discipline and programs
Huaiyin Institute of Technology consists of 16 faculties and colleges, offering many bachelor degree and master degree programs in English medium for overseas students, such as Software Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Bio-engineering, Transportation, Chemical Process, Material Chemical Engineering, Chemical Process Intensification and Equipment, etc. Huaiyin Institute of Technology has been upholding the school motto “Study for the Rise of China”, adhering to competence-oriented education and focusing on the development of students’ practical abilities and innovation spirit. Every year, more than ten percent of the students further their master program education, and the employment rate maintains as high as ninety-six percent.
(3) Campus Overview and faculty
Huaiyin Institute of Technology has two campuses—Meicheng Road Campus and Beijing Road Campus— covering an area of about 2070 mu (about 148 hectares). There are about 20,000 registered regular students studying for bachelor's degrees or master’s degree. It has a staff of 1,366, among whom there are 1,037 faculty members, including 454 professors and associate professors. Huaiyin Institute of Technology actively promotes to build the first Taiwanese Businessman College in china with Chung Hua University and other 2 universities in Taiwan. It also sets up a HYIT-ZTE College with ZTE Corporation. It has jointly established the Research Institute of Northern Jiangsu with Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, and co-built Huaian Businessman College with Huaian Federation of Industry and Commerce.
(4) Communication and international cooperation
Huaiyin Institute of Technology actively promotes the academic internationalization and has been enhancing the linkage and cooperation with over 30 overseas universities. Every year, many students go abroad to study and also many teachers study abroad or work as international visiting scholars. At the same time, many foreign experts coming from USA, Canada, Britain, Australia and other countries have been working in Huaiyin Institute of Technology for years.
