(1) History
Hubei University of Medicine was founded as Wuhan Medical College, Yunyang School in November 1965 and renamed Tongji Medical University, Yunyang Medical College in 1986. In 1994, HUM was independently instituted as Yunyang Medical College under the Approval of the State Education Commission. In 1996, Yunyang Medical College passed the National Undergraduate Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA) an accreditation organized by the State Education Commission. In 2006 Yunyang Medical College was evaluated as “Excellent” in the TQA conducted by the Ministry of Education. In 2010, Yunyang Medical College was renamed Hubei University of Medicine under the approval of Hubei Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education. In 2012, HUM was authorized by the State Council to be qualified of granting Master’s Degrees as well as to enroll international students.
(2) Discipline and program
Hubei University of Medicine has 14 secondary school, presently is equipped with clinical medicine, anesthesiology, biological science, oral medicine, such as 18 undergraduate majors, clinical medicine, basic medicine, nursing, pharmacy, 4 master's degree authorization first-level discipline. Among them, there are 2 national characteristic construction major and 5 provincial undergraduate brand major.
(3) Academic Facilities and Scientific Research
Hubei University of Medicine is an important training base for medical and health personnel in the central and western regions of the country. There are 1113 staff members, including 144 professors, 406 associate professors and 221 doctoral students. The school has 2 academicians, 1 national traditional Chinese medicine laboratory, 13 provincial key laboratories or research centers (bases), 3 provincial graduate work stations. There are 10 high level scientific research institutes (rooms) of basic medicine, regenerative medicine, reproductive medicine, clinical medicine, organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery, and the only SPF experimental animal center in northwest China. At the same time, it has the largest medical library in the central and western part of the country, with 99.98 million books.
(4) Great Achievement
Hubei University of Medicine has achieved great success in talent training, scientific research, social service and international communication. In February 2015, the school was awarded the honorary title of "national civilized unit" by the central civilization committee. The main discipline clinical medicine of the school has entered the top 1% of ESI global ranking, and has 2 national specialties and 5 provincial-level undergraduate brands. Built in 17 national and provincial fine courses, four provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, taking two countries "outstanding physician training plan" project, the seven national and provincial "comprehensive reform" project and a batch of major teaching and research projects at the provincial level.
(5) Communication and International Cooperation
Hubei University of Medicine has recruited 55 domestic and overseas scholars, including professor Ferid Murad, a Nobel laureate in medicine or physiology, to serve as visiting professors, subject leaders and academic backbone. Professor Violeta Lopez of the national university of Singapore, professor Hu Ming of the university of Houston and foreign dean of the college of nursing and medicine, respectively. We invite famous experts and scholars from home and abroad to engage in academic exchange activities. 
At present, the school has maintained good cooperation and exchange relations with the university of the United States Wright State University, University of Leicester and University of Sydney. More than 300 students and students participate in international exchange programs.
