Hunan Normal University (HNU) is located in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, a city of beautiful scenery and outstanding intellectuals. 1. History
The history of the school is based on teacher education is known, has a long history of the famous university, the construction of university is the national "211 Project" key, come out in front in the national normal university. Chinese University without walls Hunan Normal University began in the Anti-Japanese War, was born in 1938 in Hunan Lantian National Normal University, is China's first independent national teachers college. The summer of 1938, the National Government Ministry of Education decided to create an independent National Teachers College. In October 27, 1938, China Ministry of education approves National Teachers College under the name "National College", School of Hunan Anhua County town of Lantian. After the foundation of new China, in 1953 Hunan Teachers College was established at the same time as Central South Institute of civil engineering and construction.
From 1957 to 1961, Changsha Normal College, Hunan Institute of physical education, Hunan College of art combined together as one university. After two decades, in 1984 those three institutions officially named Hunan Normal University. Hunan Normal University in 1996 becomes the first provincial university to enter into the national "211 Project". Since 2000, with 3 universities has with the Hunan Institute of education, Hunan Medical College, to form the new Hunan Normal University. Since then, the school developed from normal college into normal and non-normal multidisciplinary courses, this made the university strongest and got advanced ranks at national and international level.

Hunan Normal University consists of 24 colleges and 3 individual teaching departments, which offer 85 bachelor degree programs, 223 master degree programs and 127 doctoral degree programs. The university also has set up 18 postdoctoral research centers, owns 6 national key disciplines, 13 national education and research bases, 9 key disciplines subsidized by the 211 Project and 18 provincial key disciplines. All these programs are distributed over the areas of liberal arts, natural sciences, engineering, economics, education, medicine, management and law. The university has over 1,700 full time faculty members, including one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, 349 full professors. There are 36,000 full-time undergraduates and graduates including more than 1000 long-term or short-term overseas students studying on campuses.

The main campus of Hunan Normal University lies between Xiangjiang River and jade green Yuelu Mountain. In general Hunan Normal University has five campuses; Er Li Ban Campus, South Campus, Xian Jian Hu Campus, Shuda Campus and Zhang Gong Ling Campus. The library of the University has the largest collection of 3.4 million books among the universities and colleges in Hunan including 200,000 pieces of old traditional thread binding books, and subscribes 4,700 Chinese and foreign periodicals.
