Brief Introduction

Since the founding in 1959, and especially since the start of reform and opening up more than 30 years ago, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (JXUTCM) has always adhered to the educational mission of “serving the development of traditional Chinese medicine, the local economic development, the all-round social progress and the nation”, and has promoted the school motto “Learning and Virtue, Devoting and Excellence”. 1951, the founding of Jiangxi School of Pharmacy
1951, the founding of Jiangxi Hospital of Experimental Traditional Chinese Medicine
1953, the founding of Jiangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Training School
1958, changed its name to the Jiangxi Technical College of Traditional Chinese Medicine
May 19, 1959, the founding of Jiangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine on the basis of Jiangxi Technical College of Traditional Chinese Medicine
And the first undergraduate ceremony was held on September 5, 1959
February 1970, merged with Jiangxi Medical College into Jiangxi Medical University, and moved to Qingyuanshan, Ji’an, Jiangxi Province.
January 1972, moved back to Nanchang, continued its running at the original site of Jiangxi Medical College.
March 1973, rebuilt Jiangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine on the basis of Jiangxi School of Pharmacy, which was located on Yangming Road, Nanchang.
January 1982, became one of the first institutions of higher learning that had a bachelor’s degree-granting
 
(2). Discipline Construction
 
Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has 19000 full-time students. There are 21 undergraduate programs at the university, including six major disciplines-medicine, science, engineering, management, social sciences and humanities. In the first-level discipline, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine possesses 2 authorized doctorate degree points and 4 authorized master degree points respectively. In the secondary discipline, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine possesses 34 authorized master degree points. Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has 2 national engineering research centers and 10 key laboratories at ministerial or provincial level. Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has unique advantages in the fields of pharmacy of Chinese material medica, acupuncture & moxibustion, Tuina, etc. Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has developed a series of key pharmaceutical techniques and equipment, forcefully promoting the modernization of Chinese material medical equipment. The original achievement “Heat Sensitive Moxibustion” theory and treatment has created a new therapy through endogenous heat-sensitive regulation.
 
(3). Campus Overview
 
Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine now has four campuses, which cover a total area of 2308 Chinese Mu (about 154 hectares) with a building area of 490,000 sq meters. The school library is home to 745,000 copies (hardcopy) of books, over 350,000 electronic books and 13 electronic resource databases. There are currently 120,000 full-time students enrolled for different disciplines and academic levels.
 
(4). Affiliated Hospitals
 
There are two directly affiliated hospitals and nine affiliated hospitals at Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; including The First Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and The Second Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They can provide training opportunities for TCM medical international students. 
 
(5). Significant Achievements 
 
In the recent 5 years, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has undertaken 137state-level projects, including the State Plan for Development of Basic Research in Key Areas (“973 plan”), the State Plan for High-Tech Research and Development (“863 plan”), the National Natural Science Fund, the “Science &Technology Support Plan of the “11th Five-year Plan”, and 326 provincial and ministerial level projects. The average annual scientific research funds reach 60.0492 million CNY. Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine obtained 56 state-authorized invention patents, 9 new drug certificates and 2 computer software copyrights. There are 28 results attaining awards at or above provincial & ministerial level. Among them, 2 results attained the second prize of the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, and 4 results attained the first prize of the Provincial Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has researched and developed70-odd traditional Chinese medicine and the related products, and 16 products have successively exceeded the annual 100 million CNY sales of the single variety. Meanwhile, relying on the school-run enterprises, the school took the lead to build the new campus in the province’s colleges and universities. Since the “11th Five-year Plan”, the school has established a cooperative relationship with the large Chinese medicine production enterprises, such as Huiren Group, Jiminkexin Group, Tianqitang Group, Guizhou Yibai Group, etc. In September, 2010, under the support of Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as the lead unit, set up the “Strategic Alliance of the TCM Industry Technology Innovation of Jiangxi Province”. In the past two years, the school was successively approved 3 “2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers” by Jiangxi. 
 
Communication and Cooperation
 
Approved by the Ministry of Education, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as one of the first batch universities, has been qualified to enroll the international students and students from Taiwan, Hongkong and Macao. It is entitled to educate the international students obtaining the scholarship of China government, and to recruit the Hongkong students with exemption. Since 1993, our university has received more than 1600 overseas students, short and long terms, from over 20 countries and regions. Our university has successively established the long-term cooperative relations with the research, medical and education institutions from more than 20 countries and regions, including United States, Canada, Britain, France, Australian, New Zealand, Sweden, Belguim, Brazil, Peru, Malaysia, and Korea.
