Founded in 1948, Jilin Agricultural University was one of the first groups of universities, granted the authority to confer bachelors and masters degrees. Jilin Agricultural University was founded in 1948 and the predecessor was Heilongjiang agricultural cadre school. Jilin Agricultural University was renamed as Bei'an agricultural college and Changchun College of Agriculture in different time with the development of the school. In 1959, the school officially changed its name to Jilin Agricultural University. . In 1993, Jilin Agricultural University was authorized to be one of the earliest institutions of higher education for awarding Ph.D. degrees in Jilin province.

From the "Tenth Five Year" to 2014, Jilin Agricultural University has a commitment of 145 items of project to national and provincial teaching reform, and won two items of second reward of national outstanding teaching achievement , and4 items of first prize of provincial excellent teaching achievement.
