1. History 
 
Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST), founded in 1953, is one of the key universities in China under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It was listed in the first group of universities chosen to be part of China’s “211 Project”, which is designed to develop a hundred first-rate universities in the 21st century. The university was derived from the Institute of Military Engineering of the PLA, which was the highest institution of military technology in China established in 1953. The institute was successively called Artillery Engineering Institute, Engineering Institute of Eastern China, and East China Institute of Technology, and finally to its current name in 1993.
 
2. Discipline and programs 
 
Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) is a multi-disciplinary university incorporating science, engineering, liberal arts, economics, business, management, law and education with the special emphasis on engineering. NJUST is composed of 14 main schools offering 16 postdoctoral programs, 49 doctoral programs, 116 master programs, 74 undergraduate programs as well as MBA, EMBA and MPA. The number of students is over 30,000 including about 11,000 postgraduates and over 1120 overseas students. In six decades, the University has trained over 100,000 senior professional personnel of all kinds, who are warmly welcomed and acclaimed by all walks of life in the society.
 
3. Academic facilities and scientific research 
 
The number of Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) staff is over 3,200 people, with more than 1,900 full-time teachers, 30,000 various types of students and over 1120 international degree students.  In the terms of scientific research, Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) has set up 2 national experimental teaching centers, and ten courses have been selected as national excellence courses. And there are about over 50 research institutions, 1 national key laboratory, 1 national engineering technology research center, 1 national quality inspection center, and 4 philosophy and social science research center at Nanjing University of Science and Technology. 
 
4.  Great achievements 
 
During the “Eleventh Five Year” period, the school funds for scientific and technological activities reach 2.678 billion; 44 items of science and technology awards above provincial and ministerial level, 11 items of national science and technology awards (2 items of the State Natural Science Award, 3 items of the second prize for National Technology Invention Award, 6 items of national scientific and technological progress award in the second prize of); a total of more than 12660 papers, of which 1562 pieces of articles were included in the Science Citation Index (Science Citation Index, SCI for short) and 1562 pieces of articles were included in EI (Engineering Index (EI); 281 pieces of academic works have been published; 456 items of patented authorized.
 
5. Communication and international cooperation 
 
In order to promote the internationalization of education, the Nanjing University of Science and Technology has established a close cooperative relationship with nearly 100 overseas universities, including the world’s leading universities, to carry out various exchanges and cooperation. Approved by the national Ministry of education, NJUST organized the projects of running school with Carnegie Mellon University for training the postgraduate majoring in robot. And it also signed a joint training agreement with more than 30 overseas well-known colleges and universities.
