Shenyang Ligong University is a university in Shenyang, Liaoning, China under the provincial government. University campus is located in a new district of Hunnan New District. Over sixty-five years of construction and development, Shenyang Ligong University has developed from a single-discipline military and technological school into a multi-disciplinary university, well-known in engineering, with combination of science, management, arts, economics, law and art.
(1) History
Shenyang Ligong University (SLU) was founded in 1948. Its predecessor was Northeast Military Special School, later upgraded to the new function and title of Shenyang Institute of Technology in 1960, and later evolved into a full university and was accordingly renamed Shenyang Ligong University in 2004.
(2) Discipline and programs
Shenyang Ligong University becomes a multi-disciplinary university, well-known in engineering, with combination of concentrations in science, management, arts, economics, and law. Shenyang Ligong University has 17 schools, 2 teaching departments. It offers 51 undergraduate programs, 57 master degree programs, one Doctoral degree program, and one postdoctoral research station. Shenyang Ligong University has 27227 full-time students, among whom 1,613 are postgraduates, and 25,614 of whom are full-time undergraduates. There are also 300 international students studying here.
(3) Academic facilities and scientific research
Shenyang Ligong University has 1728 teaching faculty members, with 1061 full-time teachers, of whom 575 are professors and associate professors. Its library occupies 1,230,000 paper books in the collection, an automatic management system, and growing international database, meanwhile, its development plan of digitalizing the library is now underway. Shenyang Ligong University has 1 Sino-Russian Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base, 1 National Key Lab for 863 Plan, 1 key science and technology platform, 16 provincial and ministerial level key laboratories and engineering and technology research centers. Shenyang Ligong University has a Weapon Museum which is the sole in northeast China and is named by China Association for Science and Technology as National-level base for science education.
(4) Great achievements
In the past five years, Shenyang Ligong University has undertaken 1,760 scientific research projects, among which 146 projects are national level, including 19 projects of the 973 or 863 programs and 26 projects of National Natural Science Foundation. Shenyang Ligong University has received one national award and 30 provincial awards. The number of published research papers totaled up to 3,874, including 1,215 papers with SCI, EI and ISTP index. 288 books have been published. 444 patents have been authorized, of which 44 are invention patents. Shenyang Ligong University has tremendous research strength in machinery manufacturing, energy and environment protection, electronic information, automatic control, new materials production.
(5) Communication and international cooperation
Shenyang Ligong University has established stable cooperation with 65 universities in eleven countries, such as Russia, the United States, Britain, Canada, Germany, Japan, and Finland. Four advanced laboratories were built with nine institutes from the National Academy of Sciences of Russia and Belarus. Shenyang Ligong University has conducted joint programs with universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Russia and other countries. At present, there are more than 300 international students studying here.
