Brief Introduction 

Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications (XUPT) is located in the southern cultural area of Xi'an city. It has now become an engineering-based university which focuses on information and science technology, while jointly developing management science, economics, humanities, legal science and art. It was the only higher education institute in northwest China established by the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) and is now one of the universities that deliver the “Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers” which was instituted by the Ministry of Education. Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications is a People's Liberation Army (PLA) reserve officers' training base. It is also one of the universities that have been approved by the government to enroll international students to study academic courses, and it has been authorized to confer Bachelors and Masters Degrees.

1. History 

Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications (XUPT) was founded in 1950 in Xi'an city, one of the world's four great ancient capitals – home to the world famous Terracotta Army. After many years’ development, the university has now owned two campuses with the original Yanta campus adjacent to Dayan Pagoda and its new campus facing the Zhongnan Mountains. With the beautiful surroundings, rich cultural atmosphere and comprehensive facilities, XUPT is the best choice to study while being immersed in typical Chinese culture. 

2. Discipline and programs 

Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications maintains 43 Undergraduate Degree Programs, 47 Master Degree Programs, and 5 Professional Master Degree Programs. Three Bachelor and Master's Programs including Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology and Electronic Science and Technology can offered in English currently. 3. Academic facilities and Scientific research 

Today, Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications has two campuses: the Changan campus and the Yanta campus, covering a total area of 1500 mu. The total constructed area is more than 730,000 square meters. The library includes 1,500,000 collections. It has 11 key labs and faculty and staff over 1,000. Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications is composed of 15 schools and departments: School of Communication and Information Engineering, School of Electronic Engineering, School of Computer Science & Technology, School of Automation, School of Economics and Management, School of Management Engineering, School of Sciences, School of Foreign Languages, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Digital Arts, School of National Defense, School of International Education, Graduate School, College of Higher Vocational Technology Education, Department of Physical Education, Institute of Things Internets and Integration of Informatization and Industrialization.

Over the past years, the University has undertaken 280 national, ministerial, and provincial research projects, including the National “863” High-Tech Research and Development Program; the National Natural Science Fund; the National Social Sciences Fund; the National “242” Information Security Program; the National Soft Science Research Program; the National Science and Technology Special Programs; and some major Shaanxi provincial projects. 

4. Great achievements 

Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications has won 40 prizes for achievements in science and technology at the state and provincial levels. In 2008 the academic thesis “40 Gb/s SDH (STM-256) Optical Fiber Telecommunication Devices and System” won the Second Grade National Prize for Science and Technology Progress; in 2009 the “Research of the Key Technologies of TD-SCDMA Base Station, Equipment Development and Industrialization” won the same prize; and in 2010 the academic thesis “HuFu TePA” was approved as an international standard by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). 

Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications also established the “National Engineering Laboratory for Wireless Security", the “Shaanxi Provincial Research Center for Telecommunication ASIC Design”, the “Key Social Research Center for Information Industry Development”, the “Key Research Center of Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASIC) Design”, the “Key Laboratory of Modern Communication Technology”, the ”Software Engineering Lab”, the “Post Information Network Lab”, the “Key Laboratory of Economy System Simulation for Information Industry”, the “Shaanxi Technology Support Center of Network and Information Security”, the “Shaanxi Innovation Research Center of ITI”, the “High Performance Computing Research Center of Shaanxi Province”, and so on. These Key Labs have made significant accomplishments in social services as well as tremendous contributions to the promotion of social betterment, economic construction, and industrial development of Shaanxi Province.

5. Communication and international cooperation 

Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications has established cooperative relationships with approximately 40 universities and academic institutions from more than 10 countries and regions, including Germany, the United States, the UK, France, Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Australia, as well as Hong Kong, SAR, and Taiwan. Further, cooperative training agreements, such as “1+2+1”, “2+2”, “4+1+2”, have been signed with a number of countries, Germany, the United States, the UK and France to name a few. These programs open opportunities and make it possible for motivated and exceptional Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications students to study in developed countries and obtain degrees approved by both China and the foreign institution. 

As the only university in Northwest China undertaking the training tasks for Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications has trained groups of senior technicians and administrators in the telecom industry for the aforementioned entities. The University is also one of the China Internet Training Centers of the International Telecommunications Union, and has built strategic cooperative partnerships in scientific research and talent training with Cisco (US), Tata (India), and domestically renowned enterprises Huawei Company, ZTE Cooperation, China Telecom, China Mobile, China, and China Post.
