Donghua University is Located in the downtown area in Shanghai and adjacent to Hongqiao Economic Development Zone, one of the state-key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China. 1. History
Donghua University (DHU), formerly East Institute of Textile science and Technology, was founded in 1951. In 1960, DHU was approved as a state key university, in 1972 was renamed as Shanghai Institute of Textile Science and Technology. In 1981, DHU was among the first batch of institutions to be authorized to offer doctoral degree, renamed as China Textile University in 1985. DHU in 1995 passed the pre-audit of 211 project construction, in 1998 incorporated into Ministry of Education from China National Textile and Apparel council. Finally, in 1999 renamed as Donghua University. Today, Donghua University is multi-disciplinary university with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree progress across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, laws, sciences and education. As early as 1954, DHU commenced to accept international students who were among the first group of overseas students enrolled by Chinese universities. To date, DHU has brought up a huge number of international students from over 130 countries. Almost all of undergraduate programs, postgraduate and research programs are open to international students

Donghua University (DHU) is a multi-disciplinary university with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, laws, science, and education. It has 16 colleges and schools, offering 54 undergraduate programs, 87 master’s degree programs, 38 doctoral degree programs, and 5 postdoctoral research programs, among which are 7 state key disciplines and 7 Shanghai municipal key disciplines. Academic achievements have found applications in areas such as aeronautics, military science, new material, architecture, and environment protection. Donghua University (DHU), has 11 research institutions: (1) NERC for dyeing and finishing of textiles, this research center was founded in June 2000, the center is mainly engaged in the research of textile dyeing and finishing and processing, and the engineerization and application of its significant findings, (2) New fabrics Quick response center, this center has cooperation with oriental international Textile Import and export corporation of Shanghai in establishing Technological Information on oriental fabrics and product research center; (3) 21st Century Green Fiber research Center this center aim to collect various information on the textile industry at home and abroad, and establish multi-functional information database; (4) Chemical Fiber Engineering Research Center is a school level research center with outstanding technology and products; (5) Development Center of Automotive Textile Materials; (6) Textile Technology Development centre for Building Materials this research center is regarded as one of the four pillar industries of china economy; (7) Technology Development center of Agriculture Textile; (8)Technology Development center of Geosynthetics; (9) Advanced Manufacturing Techniques R&D center; (10) Carpet Equipment Research Center; and (11) Technology Development center of Textile Material for Biomedicine this center is based on fiber and fabric, specializing in medical application. In addition DHU has two key laboratories: state key laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials (SKLFPM), and key laboratory of High Performance Fiber and product, Ministry of Education.

Donghua University (DHU), academic achievements have found applications in areas such as aeronautics, military science, new material, architecture, and environment protection. DHU has successfully hosted such major international conferences as International Fashion Forum of Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival and the 83rd World Conference of Textile Institute.
