Brief Introduction
Huazhong University of Science and Technology Tongji Medical College, the predecessor being German Medical Hall created by the German doctor Erich Bolon in Shanghai in 1907. In 1927, the medical hall changed its name to National Tongji University School of Medicine. In 1951, the medical school moved from Shanghai to Wuhan and merged with Wuhan University School of Medicine to become Zhongnan Tongji Medical College. In 1955, the college changed its name to Wuhan Medical School and in 1985, it changed its name to Tongji Medical University. In 2000 May, merged with the former Huanan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan Urban Construction College, the university changed its name to Tongji Medical College Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
1. Campus Overview
With the 72% greenery coverage on campus, Huazhong University of Science and Technology Tongji Medical College is honored as the “University in the Forest”. Now about 10,000 students are studying in Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, among them, about 300 are international students in MBBS program and Nursing program. Each year, MBBS program attracts about 100 students from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe.

Huazhong University of Science and Technolog Tongji Medical College has a total staff of 12,880, including 3,100 full-time teachers, over 500 professors and 700 associated professors. 3. Programs and Achievements
Huazhong University of Science and Technology Tongji Medical College is among the first batch of institutes approved by the state to confer doctorate and master degree. Now the medical college has 13 undergraduate programs, 63 doctoral degree programs, 71 postgraduate programs, and 7 post-doctoral research stations. There are 9 national key disciplines, 5 national key cultivating disciplines, 56 national clinical key specialties, 5 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 2 key laboratories of Ministry of Health, 15 national quality courses and a group of national characteristic majors, bilingual teaching demonstration classes and experimental teaching demonstrating centers. Tongji Medical College is the innovation experimentation area of Chinese and German medical education in personnel training mode. The medical college has a number of national level teaching teachers, teaching team and teams of “Innovation Team Development Plan” of MOE. Public health and preventive medicine ranks first and clinical medicine, pharmacology, neuroscience and behavioral science ranks top 1% in 2013 in the third-round national key discipline assessment.
4. Affiliated Hospitals
Huazhong University of Science and Technology Tongji Medical College has 13 affiliated hospitals: 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 10 non-directly affiliated hospitals. Three directly affiliated hospitals include Wuhan Union Hospital, Tongji Hospital and Liyuan Hospital. These affiliated hospitals enjoy high reputation in central China and provide students abundant practice and internship.
Union Hospital Tongji Medical College Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a comprehensive teaching hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health, founded by London Missionary Society and the Methodist Churches of Great Britain in 1866. The hospital is affiliated with Huazhong University of Science and Technology Tongji Medical College, consisting of First Clinical College of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Asia Emergency Assistance Center, Emergency Center of Hubei Province, Telemedicine Center of Hubei Province. It has been assessed as “Third-Class-A Hospital”, the first in China. In the past years, it has won a lot of honorable titles such as “National Top 100 Hospital”, “National Advanced unit for Spiritual Civilization Construction”, “National Labor Certificate”.
International Communication and Cooperation
Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology has a long-term friendly relation with Germany. It is one of the key universities in cultural exchange between China and Germany. Since the reform and opening up, HUST Tongji Medical College has established a long-term friendly cooperative relationship with more than 40 universities, research institutes, hospitals and companies from over 20 countries and regions (including Germany, the United States, Japan, Canada, Sultan, Malaysia, Hong Kong) and many international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund.
