Jiamusi is a prefecture-level city in eastern Heilongjiang province, People's Republic of China. Located along the middle and lower reaches of the Songhua River, it faces Russia's Khabarovsk Krai across the Ussuri River and the Amur River. Jiamusi, as the East pole of China, the first city in China to meet the sun rising, is one of the most ecological environments charming city in China. Jiamusi, the centre of the Northeast Asia economic circle, is National Civilized City, China Excellent Tourism City, National Landscape Garden City, and the National Health City, becoming the political, economic, cultural center and transportation hub of Sanjiang plain in Heilongjiang province. Jiamusi is situated on the boarder of the Heilongjiang Province, with Harbin on its west, Shuangyashan on its east. It is separated from Russia by the Wusuli River (Ussuri River) in the east and the Heilongjiang River (Amur River) in the north.

Historical records list Jiamusi as an ancient bridle road of the Songhua River, leading to the Heilongjiang River estuary. It was once inhabited by the Sushen ethnic group, ancestors of the present Manchu group. There's no exact record of the origin of this place. It wasn't until the Twentieth Century that this place became the active town that it is now. 

The city enjoys a cold temperate continental monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of 3 degree centigrade (37.4 degree Fahrenheit). The temperature elevates gradually leading up to the summer months, and gradually decrease after. Temperatures typically peak in July. The bitter cold of winter usually sets in around November, and spring sets in around March. The average temperature between April and October is above zero centigrade (32 Fahrenheit).

Jiamusi has long been a major transit port and distribution center of goods, and serves as the economic hub of eastern Heilongjiang province and it is an agricultural production hub in Heilongjiang Province. Electricity production and supply, construction materials, chemicals and agricultural products processing are the pillar industries in the city. Major industrial products in the city include cement, edible oils, fertilizer and feed. The transportation is convenient in Jiamusi city. There is one airport, Jiamusi Airport, offering domestic flights to Harbin, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Also, there is one Jiamusi Railway Station connecting the city with Beijing, Jinan, Dalian, Harbin, Tianjin and several other cities in China. A comprehensive highway network is formed in Jiamusi, Served by the Jiamusi-Harbin Highway and the G11 Hegang-Dalian Expressway, as along with 6 other highways.

There are many beautiful traveling spots you can visit in Jiamusi city. Honghe Nature Reserve is a wetland habitat of swans, wild geese and red-crowned cranes. Bird watching is best throughout the summer months. Wusu is a small but rich town. It is the largest fishing ground for salmon, and is seated along the easternmost end of China. The sun's rays strike Wusu first in China. FuyuanPort is located at the area where the Heilongjiang and Wusuli Rivers converge. This is the only release for the waterways of Jiamusi City and Heilongjiang Province, and allows the water to run into the sea. The port faces Russia (across the river). Further downstream one will find the Russian cities of Komsomolsk and Nikolayev.
