Langfang City, China -North China Institute of Science and Technology Located City

 

Langfang is a prefecture-level city of Hebei Province, which was known as Tianjian Prefecture until 1973. Hebei province was reamed Langfang Prefecture after Tianjin became a municipality and finally upgraded into a prefecture-level city in 1988. Langfang is located approximately midway between Beijing and Tianjin and even enjoys a reputation of ‘Beijing-Tianjin Corridor Pearl’. Langfang borders Baoding to the southwest, Cangzhou to the south, Beijing to the north and Tianjin to the east. Langfang is the smallest prefecture-level city of Hebei Province by land area. At the 2016 census, the population of Langfang was 4,699.000. It is made of Guangyang and Anci districts. The total are is 6,500 km2. As a green city, every 300m to 500m along the city’s major streets are parks where local people stroll and take exercise. Langfang’s five-kilometer long pedestrian street is now the longest in China.  

Over 6000 years ago, there were human beings lived here. 4000 years ago, the Yellow Emperor had ever built the city in Anci district. In the modern Chinese history, during the Boxer Movement, belligerent European forces heading towards Beijing were stopped by Boxers at the Battle of Langfang, and were defeated and forced to turn back to Tianjin. The Chinese forces were victorious. It was the site of another battle during the Second Sino- Japanese War. 

Langfang’ s economy emphasizes computers and technology and manufacturing. To that effect Langfang is home to an export processing zone and an area for factories.There are two national oil and gas companies based in Langfang. The China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau, the primary builder of pipelines in China, and the ENN Group, a natural gas company, are both based in the city. Langfang is the original place of the Oriental University City, which aims to build an international professional education base. There was a 4 billion yuan investment that began construction in 1999, where some 30 universities enroll about 50,000 students. 

As the corridor between Beijing and Tianjin, Langfang has a wide transportation network. There are five railway lines, three expressways and five national highways. It forms the unique strength based on the city, airport and harbour. As to the airport, the nearest airport is the Beijing Capital International Airport and Tianjin International Airport, it takes 1 hour to go there and back. The local new airport in Daxing district will be opened in 2018. As the neighbour of Beijing, there are nearly 24 bus routes between Langfang and Beijing. 

Langfang has a typical continental monsoon climate, along with the distinctive four seasons. Summers are hot and rainy, winters are cold and dry, springs are dry and windy, autumns are clear and fresh with a comfort temperature. The annual average temperature here is 11.9℃(53.42 °F).
