Shandong University of Finance and Economics is a post-secondary institution of education in Jinan, Shandong province, China. It is a full-time comprehensive institution of higher education which was founded upon approval by Shandong Provincial Government and originally known as Shandong Institute of Finance and Economics. 

(1). History 

Shandong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE), located in Jinan, were established on July 4th, 2011 by combining Shandong Economic University and Shandong University of Finance. Shandong Economic University was established in 1952 as Shandong Institute of Finance and Economics, which was the earliest college in finance and economics in Shandong province, and one of the earliest in China. Shandong University of Finance and Economics was established in 1986 jointly by the Ministry of Finance of China and the provincial government of Shandong province. In August 2012, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, and Shandong Provincial Government signed the agreement to support the development of SDUFE. In July 2013, SDUFE was entitled to initiate Ph.D. Programs. 

(2). Discipline and programs 

Shandong University of Finance and Economics is constituted of 4 campuses, and consists of 24 schools covering 62 undergraduate programs. SDUFE currently has over 1,900 teachers, among which more than 900 are professors and associate professors.Shandong University of Finance and Economics has an enrollment of 33,000 full-time students, including about 31,000 undergraduates and 2,100 postgraduates. Shandong University of Finance and Economics offers the doctoral degree of 3 first-grade discipline in applied economics, business administration, management science and engineering; and the master degree of 10 first-grade discipline (covering 73 secondary disciplines), 11 professional master degree programs, like MBA, MPA, etc. Shandong University of Finance and Economics has grown into an international, multi-disciplinary key university covering humanities, law, science engineering, art and education, while focusing on economics and management.

There are four key provincial disciplines (Accountancy, Information Management and System Engineering, Enterprise Management and Monetary Finance), two key provincial teaching reform and experimental subjects (Accounting, International Economics and Trade), two provincial teaching reform and experimental courses (principle of Management and the basis of Accountancy) and seven provincial excellent courses (Monetary Banking, Western Economics, Western Theory of Economics and Enterprise Financial Management etc.) 

(3). Academic facilities and Scientific research 

Shandong University of Finance and Economics has 1315 teaching and administrative staff. Among the 940 faculty members, 340 are professors and associate professors, 92 having obtained the degree of PhD, while 116 are studying for that. 75.43 percent of the teachers have the degree of Master or Doctor. Ten are tutors of Ph.D. candidates, 112 are tutors of postgraduates; four professors enjoy Special Grants from the State Council; 11 have been awarded the title of National or Provincial Excellent Teacher; 11 are distinguished with the title of Provincial Leading Talented Professional and 24 with the title of Young Leading Talented Professional and Leader of the Academic Field at university level; 112 have been selected to participate in the “231 Talents Project”. 55 are Adjunct and Emeritus Professors from both at home and abroad. 

(4). Great achievements 

During the past five years, 216 research projects have been undertaken; 25 of these are funded by the State Social Science Foundation, the State Natural Science Foundation, the State Soft Science Research Project or the Ministry of Education; 1 has won a State award; 41 have won awards from Shandong Provincial Government. Additionally, 2546 theses have been published in academic journals at home and abroad. The volume of research funds totals 49.8 million Yuan.

(5). Communication and international cooperation 

Shandong University of Finance and Economics is involved in international cooperation, academic exchange and research, joint programs, dual degree programs, articulation programs with more than 100 overseas universities and institutions from USA, Canada, Britain, Australia, France, Germany, Czech, New Zealand, and elsewhere for both students and academic staff. More than 80 foreign teachers and experts are employed annually. Shandong University of Finance and Economics was permitted to admit international students in 1993. At present SDUFE has language students, degree students and exchange students from USA, France, Holland, Czech, South Korea and elsewhere. In 1998, SDUFE established and then has subsequently been followed with joint programs with Edinburgh Napier University, Unitec Institute of Technology, and Dalhousie University. The students overseas study programs, like exchange programs, scholarship programs, dual degree programs, study tour programs, are being done with University of Minnesota, University of California-Irvine, University of Rennes 1, University of Economics, Prague, and others, and more than 500 students are given a chance to further their study in these well-known universities annually.
