1. I really want to study at your University, but I can’t speak Chinese, can I be instructed in English?

Answer: The program is fully English medium program.
 
2. How early can I get into the student dormitory?
 
Answer: You may request of student dormitory along with your application. Once being approved, you may get into the student dorm generally at least one week before the new semester starts.
 
3. Can you send a vehicle to take us from the airport to the University?
 
Answer: Xi'an Jiaotong University School of Medicine offers international students Airport Pick-up service from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport to Campus. The pick-up service fee is around 300 CNY/time. But students should send detailed departure schedule to our college’s representative minimum 3 days in advance so that we can pick up without any delay. Airport Pick-up Service is only available during on-duty hours in Registration time.
 
4. What do I need to do to get my student ID, ID for library, ID for student’s service?
 
Answer: You may apply for student ID and Campus Card at School of International Education. 
 
5. Do I need to buy Medical/Health Insurance? 
 
Answer: Xi’an Jiaotong University’s regulations require that all international students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study. Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students provided by Ping An insurance company on the day of registration, which has been recognized and recommended by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Students who do not have valid medical insurance are not allowed to register.
 
6. Can I pay my tuition and other fees by credited card?
 
Answer: No. Currently tuition and other fees can only be paid in cash or Yinlian bank card. Foreign currency or check is not acceptable.
 
7. How is the living standard in Xi'an city? What about the canteen in the University?
 
Answer: The living expense here is relatively reasonable, for example, about 150 USD for your food per month. There is a special canteen for international students and Muslim canteen available.
 
8. How can I arrive in Xi'an city, the location of University?
 
Answer: If there is no direct flight to Xi'an, the recommended flight is transit from Hong Kong to Xi'an (around 2 hours and 40 minutes), or transit from Beijing to Xi'an (around 2 hours and 10 minutes), or transit from Shanghai to Xi'an (around 2.5 hours). Students can choose the travel route according to their location.
 
9. How can I exchange some Chinese currency for my pocket money when I just arrived in China?
 
Answer: Students can exchange some Chinese currency in bank for shuttle/bus ticket fare and pocket money in the big international airport when they arrive in China. And students can buy telephone card from business counter in the airport to give international call and domestic call if students need.
 
10. How are the transportation, telecom and internet settled in Xi'an City?
 
Answer: there are one airport, three train stations and many buses to many cities in China in Xi'an City. There are convenient public facilities for telecom and internet, you can buy telecom card to call in any time and there are lots of internet pub for going on internet.
 
11. How is the climate in Xi'an City?
 
Answer: Xi'an has a temperate continental monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons and average temperature is 13.68 °C (56.6 °F). 
 
12. How is China’s medical education ranking in the world?
 
Answer: China’s medical education ranks 4th worldwide.
 
13. Can a student open a Bank Account? 
 
Answer: Yes, a student could open a bank account in his name to keep his surplus money safe. He could also use this account to have his family remit any additional money as required.
 
14. Is learning Chinese language compulsory? 
 
Answer: Even though the program is taught in English, but international students must study Chinese language according to Ministry of Education, China. Chinese language classes are just offered in the first two years, three times per week, and international students are required to pass the basic level. From the third year, some clinical classes will be taken in hospital; students need practice with Chinese patients, so students need to know basic Chinese language.

15. What is the voltage used in China? 
 
Answer: The voltage here is 220 V. Converters and power strips may be purchased locally.
