Scholarships in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China for International Student

There are many different kind of scholarships provides for excellent international students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in an established evaluation system. Scholarship can further promote education and management of international students, and encourage them to cultivate their morality and study hard for their classes.

Scholarships for Postgraduate Students

In order to cultivate international students’ morality and encourage them to study hard for their studies, Shanghai Jiao Tong University provides many kinds of scholarships for Master Degree programs students and Doctoral Degree programs students. There are three types of scholarships for Master Degree programs students including Type A, Type B and Type C. There are three types of scholarships for Doctoral Degree programs students including Type A, Type B and Type C.

1. Application Qualifications

(1) Applicants cannot be supported by another scholarship simultaneously.

(2) Applicants in a master program must have a bachelors Degree.

(3) Applicants in a doctoral program must have a masters Degree.

(4) Freshmen in a professional degree program are not qualified.

(5) Applicants should be Non-Chinese citizen without physical and mental problems.

(6) Applicants for programs taught in English must complete the IELTS (minimum

score 6) or TOEFL (minimum score 90). International students whose first language are English, or obtained the degree from an English program in an English speaking country are exempt. 

2. Application materials

(1) Application form.

(2) Scan copy of notarized Degree certificates (Chinese or English notaries are both acceptable). Students who have not yet graduated should provide an official letter from your university stating the expected graduation date.

(3) Scan copy of notarized Transcripts (Chinese or English notaries are both acceptable). 

(4) Scan copy of Passport.

(5) Personal statement and study plan.

(6) Scan copy of Language certificate and score report. International students whose first language are English, or obtained the degree from an English program in an English speaking country are exempt. 

(7) Two recommendation letters from associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles. Must include the referees’ phone number and email address.

(8) Abstracts of Published academic articles and other certificates. (Optional) 

Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship

In order to further develop the education of international students and attract more outstanding international students to study in Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission has founded the “Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students” It is suitable to excellent international students to pursue bachelor’s degree or above at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai.

(1) Eligibility

a) Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health;

b) Education background and age limit:

- Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master's degree and be under the age of 40;

- Applicants for master degree studies must have bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35;

- Applicants for undergraduate studies must have completed senior high school and be under the age of 25.

c) Outstanding in academic study and daily performance;

d) Not been awarded any other Chinese government scholarships at the time of application;

(2). Application Materials

a) Application Form;

b) Scan copy of highest diploma and transcripts. Both documents should be in English. Non-English certification should be attached with the notarized version in English. If applicants are high school or university students, they shall also provide studying certificates;

c) Study plan in English. Information such as basic personal information, education background, working experience, and interested research projects and research plan if were accepted as the doctoral student should be included. (Master: no less than 1000 words; Doctor: no less than 1500 words);

d) Published paper title, abstract and other certificates and materials that can attest to academic achievements and research ability;

e) Applicants for Doctorate or Master Programs must provide two letters of recommendation in English by professors or associate professors.
