TCM Internship at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China

For 5-year Traditional Chinese Medicine of Bachelor Degree, the last year is TCM internship and clinical rotation. Internship is of great importance since the practicality of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is compulsory to acquire TCM Bachelor Degree. Internship is also necessary to participate in Chinese Medicine Practitioners Qualification Examination for being a formal TCM doctor after graduation. Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has 15 sites for high-quality clinical education and practice, including affiliated hospitals, research institutes, indirectly affiliated municipal hospitals and specialty hospitals.

Affiliated Hospitals: Longhua Hospital, Shuguang Hospital, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Chinese & Western Medicine, Shanghai Municipal TCM Hospital, The Putuo District Central Hospital, Shanghai TCM-Integrated Hospital, Shanghai Seventh People’s Hospital. Research Institutes: Shanghai Acupuncture & Meridian Research Institute, Shanghai Qigong Research Institute. Other Municipal Hospitals: Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai First People’s Hospital, Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital, Specialty Hospitals, Xiangshan Hospital, Tianshan TCM Hospital, Huangpu District Hospital of Integrated Chinese & Western Medicine, The Jingan District Central Hospital, The Putuo District Central Hospital and Putuo TCM hospital.

After 4 years’ study of TCM Basic Theory and Clinical Exercise; international students who apply for TCM Bachelor Degree must finish 1 year internship under the instruction of a TCM professor. After 1 year internship, practical skills will be greatly improved, which will lay the foundation for being a TCM doctor in the future. An examination needs to be passed after 1 year rotation. International students can participate in Chinese Medicine Practitioners Qualification Examination after another 1 year internship in the affiliated hospital of the University. After passing this exam, he or she can become a formal traditional Chinese doctor.
