Brief Introduction

Tianjin University of Technology (TJUT) was founded by Tianjin Government in 1978, starting admission in 1979 and was authorized by the State Council in 1981. TJUT is an engineering-based multi-discipline university, which has the disciplines in engineering, science, humanities, management and etc.

1. History

Tianjin University of Technology, formerly known as Tianjin Institute of Technology, was set up in 1978 and began to recruit undergraduates in 1979.

In 1996, the former Tianjin Institute of Technology merged with the First Division of Tianjin Institute of Technology (the former Tianjin University Electromechanical Branch), the Second Division of Tianjin Institute of Technology (the original branch school of Tianjin University) and Tianjin University Metallurgy School and established the new Tianjin Institute of Technology.

Approved by the State Ministry of Education, Tianjin Institute of Technology was renamed as Tianjin University of Technology in 2004. In 2006, the university got a good evaluation in the undergraduate teaching evaluation organized by Ministry of Education.

2. Overview of Campus

Across two campuses - Wangdingdi Campus and main campus, the total area of TJUT is around 1,810,661 square meters. 26,482 full-time students are studying bachelor and master degree programs at Tianjin University of Technology.

3. Programs and Discipline Construction

Tianjin University of Technology offers 58 bachelor degree programs and 15 first grade discipline master programs, 69 second grade discipline master programs across 12 authorized engineering master degree programs and 2 authorized translation major master degrees integrated with the disciplines of engineering, science, humanities and management. TJUT wins the reputation in the research for the 2 municipal grade the most key disciplines and 5 municipal grade key disciplines, 2 municipal key developing disciplines, 2 Ministry of Education key laboratories, 1 Ministry of Education engineering research center, 4 municipal grade key laboratories, 3 municipal grade humanities research bases, 2 municipal grade engineering center, 1 scientific achievements promotion center and 1 industry technology center.

4. Great Achievements

Tianjin University of Technology’s great attachment of importance on education quality has facilitated the job seeking for students. The excellent remarks have been conferred by Ministry of Education during the teaching quality evaluation for bachelor degree programs. There has been a steady rise in the research level of TJUT. Its scientific research fund has reached CNY 120 million and it has been granted 102 patents by the state.

Technical College for the Deaf

Technical College for the Deaf (TUID), Tianjin University of Technology, a principal member of PEN-International, is thus far the only college of its kind in China, and one of the most famous technical colleges for the deaf in the world. It has good cooperative relations with other technical colleges for the deaf in the world, such as National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the United States, and National University Corporation Tsukuba University of Technology (NTUT) in Japan.

In its history of fifteen years, over 300 students have entered the society as teachers, architects, public officials in federations of the disabled, and internet management. In recent years, all of the college's graduates have found employment. In May, 2006, its course of computer science & technology was awarded the title of Distinguished Major.

5. International Communication and Cooperation

Tianjin University of Technology has established friendly cooperative relationships with over 70 colleges and universities from more than 20 countries or regions in the world. It has initiated 3 joint education programs for master degrees and 4 joint education programs for bachelor degrees with universities from Canada and Japan.Tianjin University of Technology has also established a Confucius Institute in cooperation with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland.
