Why Study at University of South China

University of South China, is a comprehensive public university with a history of about 60 years, co-funded by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, China National Nuclear Corporation, China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation, and the People’s Government of Hunan Province.

(1) History

In 1958, Hengyang Medical College (HMC) was founded in Hengyang, a medium-sized city in the central China's Hunan Province. In 1959, Hengyang Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (HIMM) was founded, bordered by HMC to the north. In 1979, HIMM was renamed Hengyang Institute of Technology (HIT) . In 1993, HIT was renamed Central South Institute of Technology (CSIT). In 2000, The University was merged by HMC and CSIT (with English translation of its Chinese name as Nanhua Unviversity (NHU)). In 2007, The University changed the English translation of its name from Nanhua University to University of South China (USC).

(2) Discipline and program

University of South China is an established institute of tertiary education with 26 schools or teaching departments. We have 3 first-level postdoctoral research exchange centers, 3 first-level doctoral degree authorization centers, 18 second-level doctoral degree authorization centers;19 first-level master’s degree authorization centers, 149 second-level master’s degree authorization centers;4 professional degree authorization centers which are of MBA, project management, project master and clinical medicine master including 32 professional degree authorization directions; The fields of study at University of South China cover 65 subject majors authorized to offer B.A., B.S. and B.M. degrees involving engineering, medicine, management, science, economics, law, literature and education. 10 national defense disciplines and provincial key disciplines .There are 20 national and provincial majors. In affiliated hospitals there are 4 national-level professional trainings established by ministry of health, 43 key professional trainings by .provincial health department.

(3) Teaching Faculty

The University is home to over 2,800 faculty members, including around 1200 clinical teachers and around 1600 professors and associate professors. University of South China has 4 directly affiliated hospitals: First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China, Second Affiliated Hospital of University of South China, Third Affiliated Hospital of University of South China, and Affiliated South China Hospital of University of South China. Those hospitals fulfill their functions and perform their duties in clinical treatment, teaching, research and courses of study.

(4) Communication and international cooperation

Since 2010, University of South China has begun to enroll M.B.B.S international students including undergraduate. The university also enrolls students who study Modern Chinese and other majors. The number of international students is increasing and the teaching and management experiences are rich. International students are from many countries such as Pakistan, Ghana and Somalia. The characteristic is that the international students who don’t know Chinese are taught in bilingual teaching. The university is the best choice for international students.
