Navel Architecture and Ocean Engineering Program in China

1. Introduction

Navel Architecture and Ocean Engineering program refers to working principle of marine engineering. Students mainly study structure, navigation principle, safety design and specification of important classification societies at home and abroad, etc., and study design method of ship to ensure rapid navigation, good maneuverability and wind and waves resistance of the ship. Besides, students study methods and principles of ship testing to solve the problems in the design, construction, use and management of the ship.

2. Training Objectives

Navel architecture and ocean engineering program trains senior technical personnel who have basic skills and basic management knowledge of design, research, construction of modern ship and ocean engineering, with computer programming and application ability, and can be engaged in technology and management in departments of design, research, manufacturing, inspection, use and management of ships and ocean structures.

3. Knowledge and Ability

1). Students should master the basic knowledge of marine power equipment, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical and electrical integration;

2). Students should master basic skills of engine condition detection, maintenance and the maintenance of the turbine system;

3). Students should have the preliminary ability to control the ship power plant, repair ship and monitor ship manufacturing;

4). Students should be familiar with conventions, law and regulations about ship transportation security;

5). Students should know about the development trend of ocean shipping;

6). Students should master the basic methods of document retrieval and data query, and have the ability of doing scientific research and practical work.

Mathematics, mechanics, design principle of ship and ocean engineering

5. Main Courses

Theoretical mechanics, material mechanics, fluid mechanics, ship structural mechanics, ship statics, ship resistance, ship propulsion, hull intensity and structure design, hull construction technology, hull welding, principles of ship design.

6. Practical Teaching

Practical courses include metalworking practice (3 weeks), practice in shipyard (3 weeks), on-ship practice (2 weeks), the general arrangement is for 8 weeks.

7. Experiments

Ship model resistance test, propeller test, ship model self propulsion test and experimental stress analysis, etc.

9. Employment Direction

Graduates can be engaged in design, research, manufacture, inspection, usage and management of ship and offshore structure in design and research units of ship and marine engineering, domestic and international classification society, shipping companies, shipyards, colleges and universities and departments of shipping management, shipping trade and management, customs, marine insurance and maritime arbitration. Graduates can also work in similar industries and units related to information industry.
