Resources and Environmental Science Program in China

1. Introduction

Resources and Environmental Science is a comprehensive discipline that applies the rational use of resources and environmental protection into the field of production and environmental construction from the ecological point of view.

2. Training Objectives

The program mainly cultivates senior science and technology talents with the basic theoretical knowledge of modern biology and ecological environment science, remote sensing and information technology of ecological agriculture resources and the practical ability of providing technical support for sustainable development, can be engaged in the frontier of resources and environment science field to undertake innovative research and management.

3. Training Requirements

The students should master the basic theory of resources and environment science, familiar with the soil and water resources and environmental conditions; can conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis and evaluation on the quality of resources and environment; master the techniques and methods of improving resource use efficiency like water, nutrient and organisms; learn to use information technology for macro management and decision-making like high efficient utilization of resource, environmental protection and prevention of degradation.

The students mainly study the basic theory, basic knowledge of resources and environment and urban rural planning and management, receive the training in the scientific thinking and scientific experiment of basic research application and applied research, with good scientific literacy and primary skills of teaching, research, high efficient and sustainable utilization of resources, resource development, effectively protecting the environment and resource environment management and planning.

4. Knowledge and Abilities

1) Master the basic theories and knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry and so on;

2) Master the basic theory and method of resource environment and urban and rural planning management;

3) know the general principles and methods of similar majors such as geographical science, ecology, environmental science and management science;

4) Know the policies about science and technology, intellectual property rights, familiar with the relevant policies and regulations of environmental protection and so on;

5) know the theoretical frontier of resource environment and urban rural planning management, the application prospect and the development of the urban and rural planning;

6) Master the basic methods of information retrieval, document retrieval and the use of modern information technology to obtain relevant information;

7) With certain ability of experimental design, creating experimental conditions, induction, collation, analysis of experimental results, writing papers, participating in academic exchanges.

5. Main Courses

Biological basis, biochemistry, microbiology, ecology, genetics, molecular biology, biostatistics, agricultural resource information system, instrument analysis, environmental monitoring and assessment, environmental chemistry, environmental biology, introduction to natural resources, general geology, measurement and cartography foundation, soil science, land resources, water resources development and utilization, environmental ecology, the investigation and evaluation of environmental resources, regulations and management of environmental resources, division and planning of environmental resources, introduction to remote sensing, information system of environmental resources, plant nutrition, environmental resources analysis and detection of agricultural products, environmental monitoring and remediation technology, etc.

The program combines ecology, environmental chemistry, environmental engineering, environmental monitoring to conduct teaching practice, and outdoor and on-site production practice is conducted in the production, scientific research, monitoring departments related to environmental protection to finish graduation thesis, etc.
